RIS update

I measured the Specific Gravity today on the Russian Imperial Stout and measured 1.026.  It is still bubbling, so it looks like the fermentation has gone well.  I was worried that I couldn’t get this monster beer to ferment, but it has gone well.  The hydro sample is definitely bitter, but has a real nice taste to it—and quite the kick.

Looking forward to it!

  1. I've been interested in brewing this beer, and have subscribed to your RSS feed. Please keep us posted. Do you have it in a secondary?

  2. Yes, it is in secondary now--I've stolen a few tastes to see how it has progressed. Definitely an interesting beer! I almost regret brewing only 3-gallons now as I look at all the time it takes. I put it in secondary on May 11 and the gravity was still 1.026. Just under 12% by my calculations. I starting to get worried about carbing it--I think I'll add some dry yeast at bottling time and give it 2-4 months to carb. I'll have to do some research to see how much yeast to add.
